Amazon hiring additional 100K workers to handle increased holiday demand

Amazon is adding another 100,000 seasonal jobs to assist with increased demand during the holiday season, the company announced Tuesday.

Job seekers in California, Texas, Maryland, Georgia and New Jersey stand the best chances of landing the holiday jobs, but all new hires will help pick, pack and ship customer orders to Amazon warehouses across the United States and Canada, CNBC reported.

The full- and part-time jobs will span all skill levels and offer either a “path to a longer-term career” or “extra income and flexibility during the holiday season,” the company stated in a news release.

“We have spent billions this year adding new last-mile and transportation capacity and are putting more selection in fulfillment centers closer to customers, which is possible because of the sophisticated and integrated network we’ve been building for over 20 years,” the company stated.

In September, Deloitte forecasted a 25% to 35% increase in online retail sales between November and January, CNN reported.

As of June 30, Amazon employed 876,800 people, excluding contractors and temporary workers, CNBC reported.
