Gertie’s owners searched high and low for their missing dog, thinking that a neighbor took the dog or it was hiding somewhere safe.

The dog had run out when Lynn Herman came home and opened the door, WXIX reported.

But Connie Frick, Gertie’s owner, later found out that the dog had fallen through a roof of a hillside garage and was stuck between the garage’s old wall and a cinderblock wall constructed to keep the structure standing, WCPO reported.

First responders were alerted to Gertie’s whereabouts after receiving a call from a homeowner who had heard a dog crying and investigated, WXIX reported.

Vanessa Roland, the owner of the garage, was able to spot Gertie through a hole, WXIX reported.

Firefighters tried to lift her out of the crevice but were not able to so they cut and pounded apart part of the wall to reach in and grab Gertie out, WCPO reported.
