‘Mulan’ to premiere on Disney+ next month – but subscribers must pay an extra fee to watch

After delaying the theatrical release of "Mulan" multiple times, Disney announced Tuesday that the film will make its debut on Disney+ next month.

According to The Associated Press, “Mulan,” originally slated to hit theaters March 27, will premiere Sept. 4 on the streaming service. Subscribers, who already pay a monthly fee, must pay an extra $29.99 fee to rent the film, the news agency reported.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek said the company was aiming “to meet the needs of consumers during this unpredictable period,” according to the AP.

"We see this as an opportunity to bring this incredible film to a broad audience currently unable to go to movie theaters," he said.

The film will still hit theaters in markets where the streaming service is unavailable, the AP reported.
