According to WWAY-TV, a photo shared Wednesday by the Craven County Sheriff’s Office shows a tiny, fuzzy owlet resting on a deputy’s hand.

“Today, we were fortunate enough to help this baby owl get to rescue!” the department wrote in a Facebook post, which has drawn more than 500 likes.

On Thursday, the nonprofit Wild at Heart Wildlife Sanctuary provided an update and shared more photos of its newest feathered friend.

“We could use some support!” the organization wrote on social media. “This baby great horned owlet lost its home yesterday due to logging. It will be the first of many baby raptors we raise this year.”

The rescue group, which is seeking donations of RodentPro.com gift certificates to buy feeder mice, went on to say that baby raptors eat three times as much food as adults.
