‘This is fine’: Indiana family delights with meme-themed Halloween display

IRVINGTON, Ind. — An Irvington, Indiana, family nailed both Halloween décor and the spirit of 2020 in a single picture window.

Homeowner Nancy Lynch took a humorous approach and a cue from social media with her seasonal decorating this year, recreating a scene from a popular meme that’s become synonymous with everyday people muddling through the chaos created by such an unpredictable year.

“Laughter is what everybody needs, and this brings them a little laughter. We were hoping it would make people giggle. I had no idea it would make people giggle all over the world,” Lynch told WXIN.

Specifically, a cartoon dog sitting in a burning home surrounded by flames graces the Lynch abode’s picture window, with the phrase “this is fine” visible above the window, the TV station reported.

And much like the innumerable clicks the social media phenomenon has generated in helping people mockingly cope with one seeming pitfall after another in 2020, the Lynches' picture window has gone viral.

“It means, you know what? Everything has gone crazy, and we can’t control it, and we might as well just say it’s fine because we can’t do anything about it,” Lynch told WXIN, noting that it was actually her son’s idea.

“I looked it up online, and went, ‘Oh my God, that’s perfect!’" Lynch told the TV station.
