Google Home has finally caught up to other major brands in supporting Smart Buttons

Smart buttons have become a favorite for people who want things done fast — especially when you walk in the door with your hands full. One press, and the lights are on, the music’s playing, or the blinds are opening.

Until now, Google Home users couldn’t fully take advantage of that convenience. But with a new update, the Google Home app is finally adding support for smart buttons, letting users control things like lights and other connected devices with a simple tap.

If you’re not familiar, smart buttons are physical switches that connect to your smart home. You can press them to turn lights on or off, start music, or trigger routines — no voice commands needed.

Other major platforms, including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings, have supported smart buttons for years. With this update, Google Home is now catching up and giving users another hands-free way to control their home.
