Olivia Rodrigo just took the phrase “getting unraveled” very literally.

The pop star kicked off her Unraveled Tour in Hartford, Connecticut, over the weekend — and one of the night’s biggest surprises involved a dress that literally appeared to melt right off her body.

During a performance of “the cure,” Rodrigo stood onstage in a white collared mini dress as artificial rain began falling around her. As the water hit the dress, the material slowly dissolved, revealing a red corset-style bodysuit and miniskirt underneath.

And no, the dress didn’t malfunction. The whole thing was planned.

The water-reactive outfit was designed by fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, who had previously experimented with similar dissolving garments in his work. The costume change was designed to happen as Rodrigo sings the lyrics “I’m unraveled,” making the disappearing dress part of the show’s larger visual concept.

The dramatic moment quickly made its way across social media, with fans sharing videos of the transformation and plenty of opinions about the unusual fashion stunt.

The Unraveled Tour supports Rodrigo’s latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, while also giving fans plenty of throwbacks to songs from SOUR and GUTS.

The concert is divided into seasonal chapters, opening in a colorful, garden-inspired Spring setting before moving through Summer, Autumn and Winter.

The production later shifts to a purple twilight for an acoustic section, where Rodrigo wears a purple leather dress.

The rain-soaked performance of “The Cure” served as the centerpiece of the Winter section.

So, if you’re heading to one of Rodrigo’s upcoming shows, don’t blink during “the cure.” You might miss an entire outfit disappear before your eyes.
