Athens adds new COVID cases

Death toll holds steady

The Georgia Department of Public Health says Athens added 33 new confirmed cases of coronavirus Tuesday: the count now stands at 531. Athens still has just 15 deaths from COVID 19. The numbers are in Oconee County: 154 cases and ten deaths from coronavirus.

Oglethorpe County has 89 cases and seven deaths; Madison County has seen four deaths among its 92 confirmed cases, and Jackson County has had 370 cases and ten deaths.

The northeast Georgia county with the most cases is, by far, Hall County, with now almost 3,200. There have been 60 deaths from coronavirus in Hall County.

Statewide, there are now more than 81,000 confirmed cases and 2,805 deaths. There have been more than 11,000 hospitalizations because of coronavirus.

The city of Lula says it is limiting operations in its city hall building: a Lula government employee has tested positive for coronavirus.
