Car dealer pleads guilty to using customer information to apply for loans (NCD)

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A used car dealer in Springfield, Missouri, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of wire fraud and identity theft.

Chris King, who runs Queen City Motors, was charged with using information he collected from potential customers to apply for car loans in their name, and then used money from those loans for his own use without the customers’ knowledge, KOLR reported.

Investigators say King submitted at least 30 applications, netting a total of $784,475.84 between November 2018 and November 2020, KYTV reported.

King faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each count of fraud.
