Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have struck out.
The actress and former major league baseball star have called off their engagement after two years, People reported on Friday, citing “multiple” anonymous sources.
“This has been a long time coming,” one source told the magazine. “They are tied in their business worlds so it’s not a cut-and-dry breakup. It’s taken a while for them to even think about untangling it all.”
The couple’s split was first reported by the New York Post.
Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, got engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019 after dating for two years, E! Online reported. They were last seen on March 1 in the Dominican Republic, where Lopez is shooting a film, People reported.
On Friday, Rodriguez shared a solo selfie on Instagram.
“Don’t mind me, just taking a sail-fie,” he wrote. “What are your plans for the weekend?”
Rumors of a breakup surfaced last month after speculation arose that Rodriguez was having an affair, People reported. Rumors had swirled around “Southern Charm” reality star Madison LeCroy, who was accused of sleeping with a married major league baseball player, the magazine reported
However, People reported that Rodriguez and LeCroy had “never met.”
Rodriguez had expressed hopes as recently as January that the couple would get married in 2021.
“You know we tried twice in 2020. We got bit twice by COVID-19,” Rodriguez said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” “You know, they say third time’s a charm, so let’s hope it’s what we want to hear.”
Lopez told Elle that the couple was not in rush to head to the altar.
“We postponed the wedding twice. We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, (but) I don’t know if we’ll be able to re-create that,” Lopez told the magazine. “We canceled it, and since then, we haven’t really talked about it.”
