PALMDALE, Calif. — A Palmdale, California mother of six died Monday after testing positive for COVID-19.

Brenda Martinez had been isolating at home until she started having breathing problems, family members told KCBS-TV. She was hospitalized last week and was in critical condition for three days before she died Monday.

Martinez had underlying health conditions, according to KNBC.

All six of her children, ages 2 to 19, have tested positive for COVID-19, and some are showing minor symptoms.

A GoFundMe account was set up by their aunt, Crystal Acosta Torres, on behalf of Juan Jose Martinez, the eldest, to help the children.

Torres told KCBS-TV that the father wasn’t able to help and the children need support.

“They need to pay their rent for this month and their bills for food and stuff. It’s for the kids because they don’t have anyone,” Torres told KNBC.
